Parish President Issues Emergency Declaration in Response to COVID-19

Parish President Gordon E. Dove has issued an emergency declaration in response to the COVID-19 threat. 

The U.S. Centers for Disease Control (CDC) is responding to an outbreak of respiratory disease stemming from the virus that has been named SARS-CoV-2. The disease it causes has been named coronavirus disease 2019 (abbreviated COVID-19).  

On March 11, 2020, the World Health Organization (WHO) designated COVID-19 as a worldwide pandemic. As of March 11, the CDC’s website reported a total of 938 confirmed cases in the United States.

On March 9, 2020, a Louisiana resident was tested for COVI9-19, with the test being presumptively positive. In the last few days, several more Louisiana residents have been tested, also presumptively positive.

Due to the imminent threat to public health in Terrebonne Parish, the Parish President has made this declaration of emergency to allow state agencies to thoroughly prepare for any eventuality related to public health needs and deploy additional resources to assist local authorities if necessary.
