A low pressure system is forming in the northern Gulf of Mexico near Brownsville, TX this afternoon. This low pressure system will be moving northeast this evening is expected to be due south of Terrebonne Parish around 6PM tomorrow night. The low pressure system is forecast to remain offshore but will bring 1 to 2 inches of rain with the possibility of up to 3 inches locally tomorrow evening through Friday morning. The heavier rainfall is expected around 6PM tomorrow night. A flash flood watch will likely be issued by the National Weather Service late this afternoon for Thursday afternoon and Thursday night. The rain is expected to end around 6AM Friday morning. 1 to 2 inches does not sound like a lot of rain, but please remember that Terrebonne Parish has received between 10 and 15 inches since December 1st and the ground is very saturated and cannot hold any more water. The rain will run-off the ground surface quickly and fill streets very fast, causing flash flooding of streets. Residents are urged to to stay tuned to local news media for weather updates and take necessary precautions to protect their property. Drivers are reminded to never drive through flooded areas or streets for your own safety and to prevent wave action from pushing water into homes and business. Local law enforcement will be patrolling areas for violators who disregard barricades on flood streets.
