Parish President Provides Update on Tropical Storm Barry

07/13/2019 06:18 PM

Terrebonne Parish President Gordon Dove said that today was a very challenging one for the parish.  “Tropical Storm Barry has caused a few problems for us, but our emergency response crews have responded quickly and effectively,” he said.   “We are not completely out of the woods yet because tropical storm force winds are not expected to abate until about 2:00 AM Sunday morning.”  A great deal of rain is expected to fall on the parish as the storm moves to the north.  It made landfall a few hours ago and is threatening other areas of the state.  However, Terrebonne Parish must still deal with wind and rain, with rain being the biggest threat at this time.

Although the curfew has been lifted, according to Sheriff Larpenter’s website, residents are strongly cautioned to avoid the lower areas of the parish where high water could be a problem.  President Dove was specifically referring to the Lower Bayou Dularge area below Falgout Canal which is under mandatory evacuation and well as areas of the parish outside of the Morganza Levee system.

Residents are urged to call the Terrebonne Parish Emergency Operations Center at (985) 873-6357 to report problems that may arise during the night.  The EOC continues to be staffed around the clock at this point.

“Terrebonne Parish remains prepared to deal with any problems that arise during the night,” he said.  “We will continue to monitor the situation and inform the public of developments which impact the parish as well as provide critical information necessary to ensure public safety.” Please check the parish and OEP websites, parish Facebook page and Twitter for updates.
