TS Barry - Parish Pres. and Drainage Crews Closely Monitoring Storm Situation

07/12/2019 09:14 AM

Heavy rainfall and flash flood potential remain the primary concerns for Terrebonne Parish residents at this time, according to Parish President Gordon Dove.  “Although the wind will pick up later today, we should expect a great deal of rain, particularly in the afternoon and tomorrow as Barry approaches the coast,” he said.  Mr. Dove and parish drainage crews are closely monitoring the situation and will address problems as they are reported.  He said that residents should check drainage ditches, culverts, and catch basins for blockages which could cause back-ups and potential flooding.  For serious blockages, he said the parish EOC should be called at (985) 873-6357 so that a crew can be dispatched to handle the problem if it can be done safely.

An issue that came up last evening was the lack of sandbags at certain locations. Mr. Dove said that sandbags supplies are being replenished, but he asks residents to limit sandbags to thirty (30) so that all residents who need sandbags can get them.

“It is important,” he said, “for residents to stay vigilant and informed during this storm event.  Terrebonne Parish is as prepared as it can be at this time and we will continue to monitor storm updates and take any actions that are warranted.”

To report problems related to the approaching storm, please call the Terrebonne Parish EOC at (985) 873-6357.  Phones are manned 24-hours a day during this emergency.
